This area is known as the Sandhills, often time you will hear the weather stations refer to this section of NC as the Sandhills. The reason for this names is because we are right in the middle of to prominent geographic location the coastal plans with all the sand and beaches to the east and the Piedmont to pour west. We build ponds with shelves all the time that is our SOP. in this area it is more important than ever. Shelves add stability to the ponds walls and helps reduce the the chances of the walls of the pond collapsing before you put water into the pond.

3. Boulder size in placement
When working in very sandy soil you have to worry about the size and placement of the rocks that you are using. When placing very large boulder around 500lbs or greater take the time to compact the soil and maybe add a clay soil mix to help stabilize the soil. And you do not want a 500lb boulder shifting once the soil settles from all the construction
